LIVE: Lucy Letby found GUILTY of murdering seven babies as jury deliver verdicts - updates

Lucy Letby has been found guilty of murdering seven babies.

Verdicts have been delivered at Manchester Crown Court following a ten-month trial.

The 33-year-old, from Hereford, denied murdering seven babies and attempting to murder ten others in the neonatal unit of the Countess of Chester Hospital.

However, the prosecution alleged she was a ‘constant malevolent’ presence at all the deaths and collapses between June 2015 and June 2016.

She was accused of forcing air into the bodies of babies, many of them born prematurely, and on two occasions poisoning babies with insulin. Ms Letby was also accused of physically attacking babies.

Her defence criticised the medical evidence against her as ‘tenuous in the extreme’, saying it relied on a 30-year-old research paper and ‘guesswork’.

A jury of seven women and four men were due to deliver their verdicts today and found Letby GUILTY of seven counts of murder. She was also found guilty of seven counts of attempted murder. The jury were unable to reach a decision on six counts of attempted murder.

Below lists a full number of charges and verdicts. Our reporter will provide live updates from court.

Jonathan Storer, Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS Mersey-Cheshire, said: “This is an utterly horrifying case. Like everyone who followed the trial, I have been appalled by Letby’s callous crimes.

“To the families of the victims – I hope your unimaginable suffering is eased in some way by the verdicts. Our thoughts remain with you.

“Our prosecution team and police investigators have my respect and gratitude. These convictions could not have happened without their dedication to securing justice.”
