Lucy Letby will die behind bars after she was sentenced to spend the rest of her life in prison following the horrific murders of seven babies.

Letby was yesterday given a whole life order at Manchester Crown Court for murdering seven babies and trying to kill six others. She is the UK's worst ever child serial killer and only the fourth women to receive a life order.

Her heinous crimes at the Countess of Chester Hospital have shocked the nation. The 33-year-old was too cowardly to face the parents of her victims, refusing to attend court to hear her sentence.

The sickening crimes are in stark contrast to Letby's upbringing. Her parents were there for every single day of trial and were even there when she was arrested at her home for multiple murders. But as a family they had doted on Lucy her whole life and even took her to Torquay with them for their holidays, YorkshireLive reports.

It was in fact after one of these trips that Mr Letby stayed overnight at his daughter's home in Westbourne Road, Chester. It was within walking distance of her work place, Countess of Chester Hospital's neonatal unit.

The family could never have imagined what happened next. At 6am on July 3, police officers knocked on the door and told Letby that she was being arrested on suspicion of multiple counts of murder and attempted murder.
