LIVE: Long delays on M6 after traffic stopped following lorry crash - latest updates

Queues are tailing back for miles on part of the M6 following a lorry crash. All traffic was stopped on the southbound carriageway between junctions 28 at Leyland and 27 at Wigan.

National Highways says traffic officers are working at the scene. There are currently queues of more than five miles approaching Greater Manchester.

A spokesperson for National Highways North West posted on X (formerly Twitter): "Traffic is now stopped on the #M6 southbound between J28 #Leyland #Chorley and J27 #Wigan following a collision involving a lorry. Traffic Officers are working at scene.

"There are 5 miles of congestion causing 60 min delays above normal travel time." Two lanes have since reopened.
