Diogo Jota funeral latest updates as footballers join family and friends in Portugal

The funeral of Liverpool star Diogo Jota and his younger brother Andre Silva will take place in Portugal on Saturday morning.

The striker, 28, was killed in an accident in Zamora, Spain, on Thursday morning (July 3), along with his 26-year-old brother.

Mourners are gathering in Jota's hometown to pay their respects to the two men at the Igreja Matriz de Gondomar at 10am – a day after a wake was held at the nearby Capela da Ressurreicao.

No other vehicles are said to have been involved in the incident.

Mourners gathered for a wake for Diogo Jota and Andre Silva on Friday ahead of the brothers’ funeral on Saturday.

Family and friends arrived at the Sao Cosme Chapel, the Capela da Ressurreicao, in the town of Gondomar near Porto.

The brothers’ parents attended the wake, with Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, Prime Minister Luis Montenegro and Jota’s agent also among
