LIVE: Huge cordon in place and air ambulance called amid reports of serious crash - latest updates

A huge cordon is in place on a main road in Bolton this evening amid reports of a crash. Police and paramedics are at the scene on St Helens Road in Daubhill.

The road is taped off from the A6145 Hulton Lane to Moorlands View. A witness has reported seeing a car and a pedal bike within the cordon.

An air ambulance is also thought to have landed nearby. Further details about the incident have not yet been confirmed, however Greater Manchester Police have been approached for details.

A witness at the scene has told the M.E.N tonight that there are around eight police officers currently manning either end of the cordon.

They said a damaged car has been pictured within the taped off area near Moorlands View.

A damaged pushbike is also the subject of investigations.

The latest update from live traffic service Inrix reads: "A579 St Helens Road in both directions closed due to accident from A6145 Hulton Lane to Moorlands View."
