LIVE: Greater Manchester weather and travel updates as freezing conditions continue causing 'severe delays' with Met Office snow and ice warning in place

It looks set to be another freezing cold day in Greater Manchester today - with a yellow Met Office snow and ice warning in place.

The warning came into force at midnight and will last until lunchtime. It comes after temperatures plummeted again overnight to below freezing.

Gritters have been out on the roads overnight but drivers are being warned of icy conditions on the roads this morning. There are also problems on the Metrolink, with 'severe delays' across the network and the Rochdale line suspended due to ice on the overhead lines.

Met Office forecasters predict travel disruption throughout the morning due to the icy conditions. Today is forecast to be a mostly clear and sunny day, though forecasters predict the mercury won't rise above 2C all day.

From around 6pm, temperatures will plunge into minus figures again. Yesterday the region woke up to a thick covering of snow as a blast of Arctic air swept across the country.

It caused mayhem on roads and on public transport, with ambulances warning of longer than usual waits, football matches cancelled and schools across the region forced to close their doors. The Met Office warned that overnight from Tuesday into Wednesday could be the 'coldest in 14 years'.
