LIVE Emergency services scrambled as building fire forces major road to close - updates

Police have closed off part of a Wigan road as crews deal with a building fire.

Scot Lane has been closed in both directions between Laurel Street and St Mark's Avenue this evening (February 21).

Greater Manchester Police says it was called out to the scene at 4.18pm, with emergency services all descending on the area.

Some bus services have been affected by the closure, Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) says.

Scot Lane had initially been closed between Wood Street and Laithwaite Road, but the cordon was shortened at around 5pm.

In a post on Twitter, a TfGM spokesperson said: "Stagecoach bus services 3 and 4 are diverted along Robin Park Road."

A further tweet from TfGM added: "Scot Lane remains closed but the length of the closure has been shortened to within Laurel Street and St Mark's Avenue.

"All other parts of Scot Lane are accessible."

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and North West Ambulance Service have both been approached for comment.
