LIVE: Dozens of firefighters tackling huge blaze in Greater Manchester - updates

Firefighters are tackling a huge blaze at a derelict building this morning.

Witnesses in Old Trafford, Stretford, reported 10 fire engines at the scene, together with police and paramedics. A fire service drone is also understood to have been deployed at the scene.

There are reports residents living nearby the scene, off Chester Road, have been told to remain indoors as firefighters tackle the blaze.

It's been described as a derelict building, possibly an old mill building, near to Chester Road. It's understood the busy route has not been closed as firefighters work at the scene.

One witness told how they alerted Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service at 5am after smelling smoke. There has been no reports of any injuries as yet.

A GMFRS spokesman said: "Shortly after 5.15am this morning (Friday 11 August), 10 fire appliances from across Greater Manchester, including the specialist stinger and scorpion appliances, were called to attend a derelict mill fire on Chester Road, Old Trafford.

"Crews arrived quickly and are using four jets to extinguish the fire.

"Firefighters remain at the scene at this time."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said:

Shortly after 5.15am this morning (Friday 11 August), 10 fire appliances from across Greater Manchester, including the specialist stinger and scorpion appliances, were called to attend a derelict mill fire on Chester Road, Old Trafford.

Crews arrived quickly and are using four jets to extinguish the fire.

Firefighters remain at the scene at this time.
