LIVE: Boris Johnson announcement on plans for 'living with Covid' including scrapping isolation

Boris Johnson will outline his plans for living with coronavirus in a statement to MPs in the House of Commons this afternoon.

The prime minister's 'living with Covid' strategy is set to include plans to scrap the legal requirement to self-isolate for anyone who tests positive for the virus.

Reports also suggest that the provision or free lateral flow tests could come to an end, and that changes to travel regulations could be announced today.

It is understood that there was a slight delay to the proposals being signed off by the Cabinet after this morning's meeting was postponed.

The delay is thought to centre on a request from health secretary Sajid Javid for additional funding for free testing to continue in some capacity.

In a Westminster briefing, the PM’s spokesman said he would not be “drawn into getting into exactly what is or isn’t in the plan here and now” when asked by reporters whether free testing is set to come to an end.

The government has also announced today that a spring booster programme will commence later this year with an additional jab offered to the elderly and vulnerable.

Mr Johnson is set to deliver his statement at around 4.30pm today.

He will then hold a press conference alongside the chief medical officer for England, Professor Sir Chris Whitty, and chief scientific adviser, Sir Patrick Vallance, at 7pm.

Mr Johnson says the government will expire all temporary provisions of the Coronavirus Act.

Of the original 40, 20 have already expired and 16 will expire on March 24, he says.

The last four, relating to innovations in public service will expire six months later.
