‘Little star’ – Manager makes prediction for Aston Villa striker

Preston North End manager Ryan Lowe hailed the impact of Cameron Archer after the Aston Villa striker made his full debut for the Championship club.

Fresh from scoring off the bench during Wednesday’s 2-0 win at West Brom, loanee Archer was thrown into the starting line-up for Saturday’s game against Bristol City.

He was partnered up front with Emii Riis, who scored both Preston goals in the 2-2 draw, including a last-gasp equaliser.

Archer was given a rating of 7/10 by our colleagues at LancsLive, who said of Archer’s performance: “A solid 80 minutes in the tank on his first start for the club. Battled away against a tough defence, did the ugly stuff and his shot led to the first goal. Looked bright.”

Lowe, who took Archer off towards the end of the game, was delighted with the 20-year-old’s contribution.

"Fantastic,” said Lowe. “It was getting a bit tight, there were a few tackles, and we were playing too straight into him, which is not Cameron's game.

"I want my strikers making runs in behind their back three, and there was no room for that in the first half. Second half, he was a lot better, got on the front foot and worked away to get the shot in for Emil's first goal.

"We knew we had to manage him well, but he is going to be a little star. The fans have obviously taken to him, they know what he is about - he's a goal scorer who will score more goals for us.

"He can do the horrible side of things, can't he? His forte is scoring goals, we know that, but he knows he is in a man's league now and not playing reserve or under-23s football.
