Lisandro Martinez: Man Utd man gave emotional interview after Spurs

Lisandro Martinez gave an emotional interview after Manchester United’s win against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday evening.

The Argentine centre-back was named in United’s starting lineup and had a tough task keeping the likes of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min quiet at Old Trafford.

But Martinez rose to the task as he helped keep Spurs’ world-class duo quiet at Old Trafford.

Second half goals from Fred and Bruno Fernandes gave United a 2-0 victory.

Martinez had his fair share of doubters after making the £55m move to United in the summer.

Many believed that Martinez, who stands at 5 foot 9 inches tall, did not have the frame needed to be a success in England's top tier.

But Martinez has answered his critics in some style and has quickly become a fan favourite with a string of superb displays.

United fans showed their appreciation to Martinez as they chanted 'Argentina!' following the victory against Spurs.

Martinez heard the chants and he gave an emotional interview following the match.

"To be honest, it's very emotional for me [hearing the fans sing for him]," he said after the match, per Man United's official website.

"I'm at one of the best clubs in the world," he enthused.

"This stadium, the atmosphere is amazing. When I heard the fans singing, I wanted to cry.

"This result is for my grandmother and my grandfather, who are not with me now, but I always feel that love with me."

Martinez continued: "We [had] a top performance tonight and we controlled the game.

"I'm really happy because this team deserves it - we always try hard and we always want to play on this level."

"I think we were very solid in defence tonight," he added.
