Lisandro Martinez carried off pitch in huge Manchester United injury concern vs Sevilla

Lisandro Martinez was carried off the pitch in Manchester United's Europa League quarter-final first leg against Sevilla on Thursday before being stretchered down the tunnel.

The Argentinian went down under no pressure in the 85th minute after turning on the ball, with a number of players surrounding him including United physios and compatriots from the visiting side. He was eventually carried off by Sevilla pair Marcos Acuna and Gonzalo Montiel.

Up on leaving the pitch, Martinez stood on his own and held his hands over his head, looking devastated while staff prepared a stretcher, the Reds defender eventually being taken down the tunnel to huge concern.

The injury occurred just minutes after Sevilla halved United's two-goal lead, a lapse in defence from Tyrell Malacia allowing Jesus Navas to fire home via a deflection. And the Spanish side levelled not long after when Youssef En-Nesyri's header went in off Harry Maguire.

Raphael Varane was also taken off at half-time and replaced by Harry Maguire, the French international going down in the first half.

United had taken a two-goal lead inside 21 minutes, with both goals scored by Marcel Sabitzer. The Reds dominated for 80 minutes but allowed Sevilla back to level terms in the closing minutes.

Sevilla grew into the game as Erik ten Hag made a number of substitutions, eventually levelling when Navas' effort cannoned in off Malacia and David De Gea.

Martinez' injury sent United down to 10-men with no options for another change, allowing En-Nesyri to take advantage by firing a header in off Maguire. The initial effort looked to be heading off target.

United now face a second leg in Spain next week with honours even and Ten Hag sweating on the fitness of his two
