Lineker fallout continues with further BBC boycotts

The fallout to Gary Lineker "stepping back" from presenting Match of the Day continues with more presenters deciding to boycott BBC's Football Focus and Final Score programmes.

Yesterday it was announced that former England international Lineker would step back from his Match of the Day role until he and the BBC have reached an "agreed and clear position" on his use of social media.

The presenter has been embroiled in a row over impartiality after comparing the language used to launch a new UK Government asylum policy with 1930s Germany.

The row was sparked by Lineker's response on Twitter to a UK Home Office video in which home secretary Suella Braverman unveiled plans to stop migrants crossing the English Channel on small boats.

Following the BBC's announcement, multiple analysts said that they would be boycotting Match Of The Day this weekend, leading to the broadcaster announcing that Saturday's show will not have studio presentation or analysis.

Today Alex Scott pulled out of presenting Football Focus just a few hours before it was due to go on air, while Kelly Somers, thought to have been Scott's replacement, also said she will not be hosting the programme.

She tweeted: "Just to confirm I won’t be on BBC television today."

Jason Mohammad said he will not be presenting the BBC's Final Score programme on Saturday.

He tweeted: "As you know, Final Score is a TV show very close to my heart.

"However – I have this morning informed the BBC that I will not be presenting the show this afternoon on BBC One."

Match Of The Day commentator Steve Wilson said on Friday that he and colleagues had decided to step down from Saturday's broadcast of the show.
