'Like an electric mouse' - BBC pundits mock 'absolutely bonkers' £40k-p/w Wolves stalwart

Jose Sa was like ‘an electric mouse’ in the closing stages of Wolves’ Premier League defeat against Leeds on Friday, according to Mark Lawrenson. 

Wolves surrendered a two-goal lead in Friday night’s 3-2 defeat against Jesse Marsch’s side at Molineux.

First-half goals from Jonny and Francisco Trincao had put Bruno Lage’s men in command, but Jack Harrison and Rodrigo Moreno scored twice in quick succession shortly after the hour to draw the visitors level.

Reduced to 10 men following Raul Jimenez’s red card, the home side conceded a third goal in stoppage time as Luke Ayling struck in dramatic fashion.

Sa, a £7.2m summer signing from Olympiacos, started in goal, as he has for all 30 of Wolves’ Premier League games this season.

Speaking on BBC Sport’s Football Focus programme (via Molineux News), Lawrenson said that Sa lost his composure and concentration in the spell which saw Leeds score twice in quick succession.

The former Liverpool defender said: “The goalkeeper is like an electric mouse for those mad five minutes! It was like someone else controlling him. It was bonkers, absolutely bonkers.”

Glenn Murray, who joined Lawrenson on the panel, echoed those criticisms, saying: “Jose Sa has barely put a foot wrong but for the second goal, he’s all over the shop.

“It was like someone was controlling him with a PlayStation controller. Just stay in your goal! And when you have mistakes one after another, that’s what leads to a goal in the Premier League.”

Murray is right to stress that Sa has by and large been excellent this season.
