Liam Rosenior reveals what Derby County's players did after Eiran Cashin's super Barnsley show

Liam Rosenior revealed how Derby County's dressing room gave Eiran Cashin an "absolute ovation" after his brilliant performance in Saturday's 2-1 win over Barnsley.

The teenage centre-back was magnificent in the League One victory as the Rams bounced back from their defeat at Charlton to beat the Tykes at Pride Park.

An own goal from Conor McCarthy and a sumptuous finish from Nathaniel Mendez-Laing had put Derby ahead before half-time before Josh Benson's deflected effort pulled one back for the visitors.

But Barnsley could not find a way past Derby's backline with Cashin producing an imperious display alongside the impressive Richard Stearman.

The 19-year-old is predicted to have a bright future after signing a new contract at the summer and Rosenior said the players were quick to show their appreciation for his performance.

"You know what I like given his age is how calm he is," he said. "I ask my centre-backs to do something that a lot of managers don't which is to, at the right time, take the ball down and play out from the back.

"As well as defending really well, he's outstanding in possession. He's got a great left foot, he's calm, but the job of a centre-back is to defend and some of his defending - his tackles, his blocks, his headers, his marking was a joy to watch.

"That's the side of the game that maybe I don't speak about enough, but it's valued in that dressing room. The lads gave him an absolute ovation when he came in because they know what he did for this result and his performance."

Cashin broke into Derby's first team in the Championship last season having come through the club's academy which continues to be a source of impressive young talent.
