Liam Rosenior sends transfer deadline day hint as Derby boss eyes more deals

Derby County manager Liam Rosenior has said that the club are currently playing a ‘waiting game’ over potential transfer deals in the final week of the summer window.

After a number of months in administration, the Rams boss was able to start adding to his threadbare squad earlier this window. A total of 13 players have made the move to Pride Park so far this window, including midfielder Conor Hourihane, forward Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and winger Lewis Dobbin, who has joined on loan from Everton.

Rosenior is keen to add further to his squad in the final week of the transfer window remaining, as he looks to give his side the best possible chance of earning promotion from League One at the end of the season. To do that, the Rams’ boss has hinted that some deals could go down to the wire.

“The market is good, a lot of hard work, making sure it’s the right individuals that come into the building,” he said in his pre-match press conference, ahead of the game vs Peterborough United. “Constant communication, constant talks, constant looking at the process and seeing what’s out there and when the right time to move is and when isn’t.

“At the moment it’s a lot of the waiting game and then all of a sudden come transfer deadline day a lot of deals happen. Sometimes if you move too early you give yourself the least possible chance of getting the best squad because you need to see how the domino effect is with other clubs.

“That’s where we’re at at the moment. I’ve got no doubts come the end of the transfer window that we’ll have a squad I’ll feel really, really confident that can be successful this season.”

Rosenior has said that while some deals are ‘in the pipeline’ he’d rather take more time to make sure they’re the right deals
