Liam Payne funeral live updates as One Direction stars and Cheryl Cole expected to join mourners at church

The funeral of former One Direction star Liam Payne is set to take place today, over a month after his tragic death in Argentina. Liam died aged 31 on October 16 after falling from the third-floor balcony of a hotel in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires.

The funeral, which is being held in the Home Counties in England, will also be attended by his family and friends, with girlfriend Kate Cassidy also reported to be there. Fans from across the globe have continued to hold vigils in memory of Liam following his death however the funeral is reported to be private.

The singer died of multiple traumas and “internal and external haemorrhage”, a post-mortem examination report said. An investigation has been launched into his death by prosecutors, and three people have been charged in connection with the incident.

The funeral, held on November 20, will be a private ceremony for family and close friends of Liam. Fans have been asking each other to stay away from the church. Cheryl, mother to Liam's seven-year-old son Bear, is also anticipated to be present at the funeral today as well as his former One Direction bandmates.

It is understood the funeral is set to take place at 1pm.
