Liam Moore pencils in potential Reading FC return date after undergoing knee surgery

Former Reading FC captain Liam Moore is targeting a return to training in November.

The centre-back is currently sidelined due to a troublesome knee injury, which he had to have surgery on last month.

Moore, who has not played for Reading since December and who spent the second half of last season on loan at Stoke City, has admitted to manager Paul Ince he is looking at making a comeback later in the year.

"He's in the medical room so it's good he's back," said Ince on Thursday. "I don't actually know him. It's going to be a long process - not a year - but speaking to him, he was thinking hopefully he could be back in November at best. But we'll have to see because you can get so many complications but hopefully he's back on the training ground in November."

Reading only have three games in November owing to the World Cup break. They are due to travel to Luton Town on Tuesday, 1 November before hosting Preston four days later. They then take on Hull City on Humberside the following Saturday before the schedule stops for four weeks.

There has been speculation about Moore's future with Reading having been stripped of the armband at the start of the year before being sent out on loan to Stoke. In addition, he has not been given a squad number by the club for the 2022/23 season. The no.6 shirt which he wore last year has been taken by fellow centre-back Scott Dann.

Former Leicester City player Moore, 29, is now in the final year of his Royals contract. The Jamaica international has made 231 appearances since moving to Berkshire from the Foxes in 2016.
