Liam Fox lifts lid on Dundee United culture as he gives Jack Ross successor 'inside' info

Dundee United caretaker boss Liam Fox has lifted the lid on life inside the Tannadice dressing room as he praised "a good group of players".

Jack Ross was dismissed as United boss on August 30 following a dismal run of form with the Tayside club remaining in talks with several candidates over a replacement. Ross had only been in the post since Tam Courts' departure in June and was given a two-year deal. But Fox believes whoever comes into the Dundee United hot seat will be inheriting a very good opportunity.

He said: “I think it’s a good job to have. I think there’s a very decent group of players here. We’ve had a couple of difficult months and everybody’s entitled to their beliefs and opinions about where they think the club is. I can only speak from the inside that I think there is a good group of players and I think it’s a really good football club. Whoever gets the job will inherit both of those things. It’s a good opportunity for somebody."

United had approached former Everton assistant coach Duncan Ferguson as a potential successor but their advances were turned down by the Scot. And Fox insists any decision on an appointment will be made with the future of the club in mind with owner Mark Orgen hinting an official appointment could be made before the international break.

“I had a quick conversation with (sporting director) Tony Asghar on Monday and it was just a case of ‘carry on until told otherwise'," Fox added. All I can say is I’ve enjoyed the last three weeks but it’s not up to me whether I’m given the opportunity or not. That’s up to the people above me in the football club. They’ll make a decision based on what direction they see the club going.
