Liam Cullen curls home late on to seal back-to-back wins for rejuvenated Swansea City

Liam Cullen came off the bench to net a decisive late strike see off fellow Championship strugglers Portsmouth, and hand Swansea City a second consecutive win under Vitor Matos.

Wales international Cullen curled home a fine effort on the edge of the area, his second of the season, to settle what was a tightly-contested affair at the Swansea.com Stadium.

It's the first time Swansea have managed back-to-back league wins since April, where they secured five consecutive victories under predecessor Alan Sheehan.

The victory also hauls Swansea up to 18th in the table, six points above the relegation zone, and Matos will hope his side have laid down a solid foundation ahead of a bruising run of festive fixtures.

Swansea previously hadn't actually beaten Portsmouth in a league fixture since 1960, and they were made to work for this victory here.

Eom Jisung drove a low shot wide after just four minutes as Swansea looked to take an early advantage, against a side that started the night three points adrift of the hosts.

But Portsmouth had their opportunities too, in what was a fairly even first half.

Lawrence Vigouroux produced a superb save to claw away Conor Chaplin's vicious strike, after Josh Murphy's initial effort had been blocked.

Ethan Galbraith, starting once again at right-back, then fired over on 15 minutes at the other end, before sending in a cross that was inches away from the lurking Ronald and Adam Idah moments later.

John Swift forced a comfortable save from Vigouroux on the edge of the area as the momentum of the contest continued to swing, before Zak Swanson skied a speculative effort well over the bar.
