Lewis Hamilton & Max Verstappen wholesome moment at Hungarian GP

After all the overtakes, brake checks, trash talk and exchanging of words, beneath the helmets of Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen lay two elite sportsmen who have shared the podium countless number of times.

At Sunday’s Hungarian Grand Prix, the duo shared the top two spots, with Verstappen winning the race as Hamilton finished in second and in front of Mercedes teammate George Russell.

What made it all the more impressive was that Verstappen started the race in 10th place, but still managed to secure victory number 28 of his career.

Meanwhile, Hamilton started in seventh to mark race number 301 as he sits in sixth place along with a whole host of F1 legends who have entered more races than anyone else in the sport.

Only Michael Schumacher, Jenson Button, Rubens Barrichello, Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen sit above the Mercedes driver, and expect the Brit to move above some of the names listed should all go well.

Post-race, the 37-year-old shared a wholesome handshake and a hug with Verstappen as they passed by each other at the Hungaroring circuit, showing the respect they have for one another. 

The Dutchman and the seven-time championship winner Hamilton were part of one of the most controversial moments in F1 history last year in the season-ending finale in Abu Dhabi in December.

A dramatic late Safety Car intervention allowed the rest of the drivers on the circuit to pass Hamilton, which ended up allowing Verstappen his first ever F1 championship win.

Since then, F1 race director at the time Michael Masi left the FIA under a cloud of controversy.
