Lewis Hamilton hopes for Silverstone victory challenge as Mercedes work to improve
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has said that he is hoping the team will have improved their car enough to challenge for victory at home at the British Grand Prix.
The W13 has been a little difficult so far this season for Mercedes to really get the best out of, and that has left Lewis Hamilton and George Russell unable to challenge for race wins.
Improvement in Spain showed that they are getting there, but a tougher race in Monaco last time out showed that there’s still more to be done, and so the Silver Arrows will be working around the clock to ensure that they do get there eventually.
Indeed, with the British Grand Prix starting to appear on the horizon, that represents a natural goal to try and be at a point where the car is race-winning levels of competitive, as Lewis looks to win on home turf.
Certainly, that is his hope at least as he revealed in a recent interview:
“I hope by the time we get to Silverstone we will have the car as we want it, to be able to fight with Ferrari and Red Bull,” he is quoted as saying by Speedweek.
“It would be nice if we can give them a run for their money at our home race.
“I know that work is going on tirelessly in the factory to make progress with the car. And I have no doubt we will get it right sooner or later.”
Lewis has won the British Grand Prix eight times and has a phenomenal record at Silverstone, so if the car is good enough on July 3rd you would not put it past him making it nine.
That is the big ‘if’, though, and all Mercedes can do is keep working hard and trying to get the optimum performance out of their car.
