The dramatic duel between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton during last season was one of sporting legend.

In a recent interview with World Touring Car driver and ViaPlay F1 pundit Tom Coronel, the veteran racer revealed to the Express that he received a WhatsApp message from Verstappen just over an hour after their crash at Silverstone while the Red Bull driver was on his way to the hospital following the 180mph collision.

The crash was subject to much debate over whose fault it was, with Hamilton’s Mercedes making contact with the rear right tyre of the Red Bull on Copse Corner, ripping it off and ending the Dutchman’s race as his car flew into the barriers.

Verstappen was sent to hospital for precautionary checks following the 51Gs collision as Hamilton drove on and won his record eighth British Grand Prix.

The Brit did not concede responsibility for the collision, stating: “I don’t think I’m in the position to have to apologise for anything, we’re out there racing.”

Tom Coronel has now since revealed to the Express what Verstappen’s reactionary thoughts to the crash were in a private message.

Coronel states that he messaged Verstappen to ask if he was okay following the collision, to which his fellow Dutchman replied: “Cannot cope with the pressure that guy hahaha. Don’t worry Tommy, we’re gonna beat him this year.”

Coronel went on to argue how the 24-year-old’s message showed his elite mentality, in not complaining about being pushed out or hurt, but using the incident as further motivation to defeat the seven-time World Drivers’ Championship winner Hamilton to the 2021 World Championship and to claim his own first World Championship title.
