Lewis Hamilton discusses suggestion of Daniel Ricciardo joining Mercedes as a reserve
Lewis Hamilton has said that if he was managing Daniel Ricciardo the Aussie would be racing next season in Formula 1.
The McLaren driver is leaving the team at the end of the season and is in need of finding a new seat for the 2023 campaign.
He has already said that he wants to remain in F1 for 2023 and not drive in another motorsport series, with him linked to the likes of Haas, Alpine and being a reserve driver for Mercedes.

It would be quite the surprise to see someone as established and as talented as Ricciardo taking on a reserve role for next season but it does seem as though there is a chance it could happen, though Hamilton believes it would be a waste of the Aussie’s talent if he was to take on such a role.
Speaking to the press at the Italian Grand Prix, Lewis had this to say:
“I think he should be racing next year
“He’s far too talented and he deserves to be racing.
“If he was part of our team he’d be great… [but] if i was managing him he’d be racing.”

Ricciardo has said that he wants to take his time deciding his future and it does appear as though nothing is imminent in terms of an agreement.
Speaking to the press here at Monza he intimated that he’d be the first to reveal his next move and that nothing was close to being agreed right now.
It would make sense for him to stay on the grid for 2023 given his talent behind the wheel but F1 does not always work out that way, and right now it genuinely appears possible he won’t be on the grid next season.
Time will ultimately tell as to where the Aussie heads, then, and he has said he is open to
