Lewis Ferguson quells Scotland Euro 2024 injury fears as Bologna star shares 'back soon' hope

Lewis Ferguson has moved to play down reports in Italy that he could miss the Euros for Scotland through injury, saying he'll be back "soon."

The Bologna skipper was forced off early during his team's goalless draw with Monza at the weekend and according to press reports in Italy, the 24-year-old told club medics he felt something in his right knee. Ferguson will undergo intensive scans this week and Bologna and Scotland will be praying the injury is not too serious amid reports in Italy that the former Aberdeen midfielder may have damaged a cruciate ligament.

That would rule him out for the rest of the season...and for the European Championships with Scotland in Germany. But Ferguson himself is hopeful of a speedy return to Serie A action. He posted on social media: "It was a frustrating night for all of us but we keep pushing. I hope the injury isn't too serious: I'll be back soon."

Bologna, who are desperate for their playmaker to be fit for their Champions League push, are hopeful he can still play a part this season. Manager Thiago Motta said after the game: "We are hoping that it was just a blow on his knee, but the tests will find out more."

Ferguson has been used by Motta more than any other Bologna player this season for 2,928 minutes in all competitions having started 31 out of 32 Serie A matches and he was suspended for the one game he missed. Now he faces an anxious wait to discover the extent of the injury to his knee with the Euros opener against Germany just 59 days away.
