Bayer Leverkusen have edged closer to signing Nigerian striker, Victor Boniface from Union Saint-Gilloise for a fee which is reported to be worth more than €20 million.

Italian journalist and transfer market expert, Fabrizio Romano on Friday disclosed this via his official Twitter account with Boniface also eager to move to Leverkusen.

“Bayer Leverkusen are in advanced talks to sign Victor Boniface from Union St Gilloise — negotiations progressing and deal getting closer,” Romano wrote on Twitter.

“The Nigerian striker has agreed personal terms with Leverkusen and the two club-sides are only now negotiating over the terms of a deal worth more than €20m package.”

A report on Wednesday said Leverkusen had decided to rekindle their interest in Boniface following an injury to the German Bundesliga club’s striker, Patrik Schick.

Boniface was always likely to move this summer following his impressive campaign at Union SG and according to the leading German newspaper, Bild, Leverkusen need an immediate replacement for Schick.

Boniface who emerged as the top scorer in the Europa League for the 2022-23 season with six goals earned a spot in the Team of the Season, a well-deserved recognition for his remarkable performance.

He made a splash in his debut season in Belgium, having had a direct hand in an impressive 29 goals (17 goals, 12 assists) in 51 appearances across all competitions for USG.

Before the Super Eagles hopeful, however, made a move to USG in the summer transfer window of last year, he had actually hit the net five times in four matches for Bodo/Glimt also in the 2022/23 season.
