Leroy Sane sends message to Man City ahead of Bayern Munich Champions League quarter-final

Former Manchester City winger Leroy Sane has claimed he is looking forward to a return to the Etihad Stadium with Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

The draw for the quarter-finals and semi-finals of the elite European competition were made on Friday morning. City and Bayern were the fifth and sixth teams to be drawn out of the hat to ensure a tricky route to the semi-finals for both teams.

While both clubs would have preferred to have avoided each other, it will at least provide a reunion for Sane. The 27-year-old joined City from Schalke in 2016 before leaving for Bayern in 2020 after 135 appearances for the Blues.

This will be the first time that Sane has faced City since leaving three years ago and the forward is ready for the challenge that lies ahead. In a tweet, he posted: "See you soon Manchester City, looking forward to it."

City's first leg against Bayern will take place at the Etihad Stadium on either Tuesday, April 11 or Wednesday, April 12. The reverse fixture in Germany will then take place a week later on either Tuesday, April 18 or Wednesday, April 19.

Should the Blues manage to beat the Bundesliga leaders they will face either Real Madrid or Chelsea in the semi-finals in May. The first leg would be away from home for Pep Guardiola's side before returning to the Etihad a week later.

Guardiola's immediate attention will not be on the Champions League following the draw. City host Vincent Kompany's Burnley on Saturday as they attempt to reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
