Leona Maguire earns top 10 finish at ISPS Handa World Invitational

A final-round 68 earned Leona Maguire a top 10 finish at the ISPS Handa World Invitational.

Having lost ground in Saturday's third round at Galgorm Castle when she shot a 76, round four proved much more fruitful as the Cavan native carded a five-under round.

That was enough to finish in a tie for 10th on 10 under, 10 shots adrift of Sweden's Maja Stark who enjoyed a dominant win by five strokes after an impressive 63 ahead of second-placed Allisen Corpuz of the USA.

FINAL LEADERBOARD

Maguire started well on Sunday with a birdie on the first before adding another on three.

But it was the back nine which saw her gather steam, with further birdies on 10 and 13. A bogey on the par-four 16th proved a temporary blip as she rounded off the tournament with back-to-back birdies.

At the top of the leaderboard, Stark was in excellent form with a bogey-free round which yielded birdies on all but seven holes.

"I don't think it has landed yet, I've just been so nervous all day and kind of reminding myself to stay calm and take one shot at a time but it's easier said than done," Stark said.

"The 22-year-old's victory earns her LPGA membership for the rest of this season and all of next season and she added: "It means the world, that was all I came here for. I just wanted that winner's category. I hate qualifying so it's great that I don't have to do that again."

Overnight leader Amanda Doherty of USA was ultimately unable to challenge for the title after a 74, which left her on 11 under in a tie for eighth.
