Leon Edwards bought his mum a restaurant after huge win over Kamaru Usman

Leon Edwards has revealed the amazing present he bought for his mum after his big win at UFC 278.

This past August in Salt Lake City, Leon Edwards shocked the world when he knocked Kamaru Usman out in the fifth round of their title showdown to capture the UFC welterweight championship.

It came at the end of a gruelling encounter that, in the eyes of many, was trending in the direction of a comfortable decision win for Usman – the pound-for-pound king at the time.

Alas, mixed martial arts is an unpredictable sport and it’s truly never over until it’s over, as ‘Rocky’ proved by completing a true underdog story to ensure he brought the belt back to the Midlands.

The road to the top was a long and difficult one for Leon but through it all, someone who was there by his side every step of the way was his mother.

A lot of fans will remember seeing him break down on FaceTime to her in the immediate aftermath of the win, with the Birmingham native continually referencing how important she’s been on his journey in years gone by.

Now, as confirmed by the man himself in a recent interview, Edwards is thanking his mum for her support in a pretty special way.

“I gave her a car before, but this time she wanted like a restaurant. She’s a very good cook, she loves cooking. I kept saying I can get someone to work in there for you, but she said no, I want to work there and I want to cook there – she wants to do it.

“So we’re now trying to open a restaurant, I found a space now and we’re fixing it up, kitting it out, and yeah, it should be opening in the next two or three weeks.”

“She’s excited for it, a little project for her to do and yeah, I’m excited for her.”
