Lennon Miller won't be fazed by praise, and Motherwell have helped him, says star

Motherwell star Andy Halliday has no fear over saying Lennon Miller is one of the best young players he has ever played with, because he knows the teenager won’t get a big head over it.

But ex-Rangers and Hearts midfielder Halliday says the club has been as good for Miller as he has been for them.

Miller, 18, broke through to the first-team in August 2022, and continues to impress, scoring his first Scotland under-21 goal in a 5-0 win over Malta in a European Championship qualifier last week.

Halliday says whatever Miller achieves doesn’t faze him at all, and hopes that continues as they tackle Dundee United in the Premier Sports Cup quarter-final on Friday.

He said: “I always try to refrain at times from talking about it, because you don’t want younger players to get too carried away, but that’s not something I even worry about with Lennon.

“He’s so humble, grounded and down to earth no matter the headlines or praise that he gets.

“He went and scored his first goal for Scotland under-21s last week, comes in and he’s still the same boy, trains the exact same – but he is certainly right up there.

“I’ve been lucky to play with a few talented youngsters, but I look at Lennon and he’s got everything. It’s not even being a young player, I think he’s one of our best players and has been for a couple of seasons, now.

“I think we’ve very lucky to have him, but I’ve said this many times as well, and I think Lennon knows it, that’s he’s also very lucky to have Motherwell.

“Motherwell gave him the opportunity he’s had at 16 years old, he’s lucky to have a manager in Stuart Kettlewell that will just keep him in the team, give him that run of games, let him make mistakes, let him grow and get better.
