Leinster U20 Hurling: Dublin comeback sinks Galway

Dublin rallied from nine points down to edge out Galway 1-19 to 1-17 in their round 1 Leinster Under-20 Hurling Championship clash in Birr.

It was Galway who made the early running and by time James O'Brien clipped their first point, they found themselves 0-01 to 1-02 in arrears.

The Tribesmen reeled off the next three scores and while Conal Ó Riain knocked over a couple of fine points for the Dubs and they rallied before the break, Galway were good value for their 1-11 to 0-06 interval lead.

Early second-half points were exchanged and by the 40th minute, there were still five points between the sides.

A Jamie Conroy goal changed the momentum and with Diarmaid Ó Dúlaing keeping things ticking over from frees, it was all to play for coming down the stretch.

Conroy’s 56th-minute free brought the sides level for the first time all afternoon.

The next two scores were shared but the final two points went the way of the men in blue with Ollie Gaffney and Conroy sealing a two-point win.

Wexford opened their provincial campaign with a three-point victory over Kilkenny where two second-half goals proved decisive.

There was nothing to separate the sides at the interval as the teams shared 18 points between at Wexford Park them after the Cats raced into a 0-6 to 0-00 lead early on.

Two second-half goals, courtesy of Cian Byrne and Luke Murphy after Oisin Pepper first has a shot well saved, proved crucial.

Kilkenny hit the last five points of the game, but fell short on a 2-17 to 0-20 scoreline.

Westmeath had three points to spare over Antrim at Cusack Park.
