Leicester share worrying injury update on Man City defender Callum Doyle

Manchester City prospect Callum Doyle will be out of action for "a long time" after Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca confirmed he has picked up a serious-looking injury.

The 19-year-old defender had started every game for the Championship outfit so far this season after his temporary move from the Etihad Stadium to team up with the former City coach. However, the player is not expected to return for the foreseeable future as Leicester continue their promotion charge as they hope to bounce straight back up to the Premier League.

Maresca and his side are the current leaders in the Championship - having picked up 21 points from a possible 24 this season - while they take on Liverpool at Anfield in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night. Doyle, though, will have to watch that one from afar.

Having started in first and second round wins, the centre-back had also played 675 minutes in the Championship, before he was withdrawn at half-time during the 1-0 victory against Bristol City on Saturday afternoon. Doyle will now undergo further scans to determine the full extent of his problem.

During a pre-match press conference, Leicester manager Maresca said: "Unfortunately, it's not good. It's expected it'll be a long time out. The only thing I can say is that it'll be unfortunately a long time. We don't know exactly how long at the moment."

Maresca added: "They are doing some checks. We don't know exactly the injury, don't know exactly the time.
