Leicester City transfer point made as Manchester United ‘consider’ N’Golo Kante bid
Manchester United fans have insisted that they should have made a move for N’Golo Kante when he left Leicester City in the summer of 2016.
After helping City to lift the Premier League title in his one season at the club, the Frenchman moved to Chelsea the following summer for a fee of around £32 million. A clause in the midfielder’s contract allowed him to move on for a smaller fee.
However, Chelsea were forced to pay a bigger fee due to their failure to qualify for the competition at the end of the 15/16 season. It was a signing that proved to be a masterstroke for the Blues.
Since arriving at Stamford Bridge, Kante has helped Chelsea to win one Premier League, one Europa League and one Champions League. He was also named player of the season in 2017 and won the World Cup with France in 2018.
The last couple of seasons however, have seen Kante miss a number of games through injury. This weekend the Guardian suggest that Manchester United are ‘considering a bid’ for the 31-year-old this summer, although Chelsea are said to be unwilling to sell.
Following the reports, United fans took to social media to give their reaction, with some making a point of when they should have signed the Frenchman. Here is just some of what they had to say.
: When people talk about missing the boat, #Kantè is a prime example.
Leicester was the golden opportunity ..
: I think we’re 6 years late to signing Kante! Could’ve gone for him when he was at Leicester and when Chelsea went in for him! We had Jose at the time and plus when we signed Pogba, Kante could’ve been the other midfielder that we signed!
: If Kante was a free agent, I would sign him, but we shouldn’t pay for him. The time to sign him was ofc when he left Leicester or
