Leicester City striker produces Portsmouth 'masterclass' and sparks transfer demand

George Hirst produced a majestic performance for Portsmouth last night as the Leicester City forward scored and created another goal in their 3-0 win over Rotherham.

Hirst is currently on loan at Fratton Park and bagged his 11th goal of the season as Danny Cowley's men bounced back from their disappointing loss to Morecambe at the weekend. Portsmouth fans were full of praise for Hirst's performance and serenaded him with chants of 'sign him up'.

Portsmouth writer for the Portsmouth news, Neil Allen wrote: "Ahead of Rotherham’s visit, Danny Cowley had spoken of the ‘impossible’ challenge to replace impressive loanees Gavin Bazunu and George Hirst. Tonight George Hirst demonstrated why he should also be added to that list.

"The Leicester City man endured a forgettable season-long loan with the Millers last term, with no goals and four starts. During his reunion this evening, the Fratton faithful were chanting ‘Sign him up’ in recognition of a striking masterclass from the youngster.

"While it was a terrific team display to triumph 3-0 over the promotion-chasing visitors, it was Hirst who was comfortably the star performer."

Praise for Hirst comes after Cowley hailed the striker after his two goals against Crewe last month.

"He was good tonight," Cowley said of the Leicester man. "He is looking a real handful, a really powerful performance and two really good headed goals.

"I thought the first goal looked a really good goal, a great cross from Connor and then the second one as well. He’s in a good moment."

Cowley took Hirst off after the striker after he scored two goals and the pair exchanged calm words after the striker left the pitch.

"I was just making him aware of why I was taking him off, because he’s got two goals
