There is a four-way battle for the final three remaining play-off positions in League One. Fourth-placed Sheffield Wednesday have their play-off destiny in their own hands as they look to bounce back to the Championship at the first attempt.

The equation is simple. A win over Portsmouth on Saturday lunchtime will confirm the Owls' place in the the end-of-season finale. Three points would also clinch fourth position and give them home advantage in the second leg of the play-off semi-finals.

But Wednesday could finish as low as seventh if they fail to beat Pompey and results elsewhere conspire against them. It is not a done deal yet.

Portsmouth will travel to South Yorkshire in good form, having won four of their last five matches. They are currently on a five-match unbeaten streak and have beaten automatic promotion contenders Wigan Athletic and Rotherham United in recent weeks.

Danny Cowley's side also have a striker in the form of George Hirst at the top of his game. The striker, the son of Owls legend David, has notched four goals in his last five outings, including a brace in the midweek win over Wigan. Hirst left Wednesday in acrimonious circumstances in the summer of 2018 after a contract dispute.

The 23-year-old, who has netted 14 times for Pompey since arriving on a season-long loan from Leicester City, made two Owls senior appearances. He copped plenty of flak from the Wednesday faithful when the two clubs last faced each other back in December.
