Leicester City 'enquiry' for Premier League midfielder on loan from Russia

Leicester City 'made an enquiry' about Norwegian midfielder Mathias Normann in January.

The 25-year-old defensive midfielder is currently on loan at Premier League strugglers Norwich City. He joined them on a temporary basis from Russian side FC Rostov last summer.

Normann had an impressive start to life in the Premier League, putting in a number of impressive performances before picking up a hip injury. While he has not found the same form since, he is still capable of being a valuable Premier League player for a team like Leicester.

According to Norwegian television station TV2, Leicester enquired into the availability of the midfielder in January. It could well be one City revisit in the summer, particularly given Norwich's impending relegation to the Championship.

It is a move that would make sense for Brendan Rodgers, given his repeated mentions of a healthy summer 'overhaul' to keep the squad fresh. Youri Tielemans is looking increasingly likely to depart, while the futures of Nampalys Mendy, Hamza Choudhury and Dennis Praet could well be up in the air.

Normann would likely be a direct replacement for Mendy or Choudhury given his strength in the defensive areas of midfield. He would come in to compete with Wilfred Ndidi and Boubakary Soumare for his place in the starting 11.
