Leicester: £145m duo could both make shock stay at King Power Stadium

Leicester are expected to keep at least one of Wesley Fofana or James Maddison and potentially both, according to CBS journalist Ben Jacobs.

The duo have been linked away from the club this summer, although Jacobs has been told that one of them will definitely stay.

Fofana continues to be strongly linked with a move to Chelsea, although the Blues are yet to meet Leicester’s £85m asking price following two rejected bids, which means that talks are ongoing.

With speculation over the defender’s future intense, he was left out of the Foxes squad for their defeat to Southampton on Saturday after Brendan Rodgers revealed that he wasn’t in the right frame of mind to feature.

According to the Evening Standard, Fofana wants to make the switch to Stamford Bridge, it appears a matter of Chelsea fronting up the required amount.

Meanwhile, Newcastle were linked with Maddison earlier this summer, although the Daily Mail have since claimed that he’s set to be rewarded for his outstanding form last season with a new contract offer, with his current deal expiring in less than two years.

But with Youri Tielemans’ future also in serious doubt, it promises to be an anxious end of the window for Rodgers, although Jacobs is confident that one of Fofana or Maddison will remain at the club beyond the 1 September deadline.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I’ve always been told that it’s Fofana or Maddison will go, not both, and that actually, there’s no guarantees that either will be sold.”

According to WhoScored, Fofana was Leicester’s best centre back last term, with no other central defender making more than his 1.7 tackles per game or 1.7 interceptions, while he also had one of the best passing success rates (89 per cent) in the Foxes squad.
