Leeds won't pick 'obvious choice' if Marcelo Bielsa seals exit

Leeds United will not go for a manager continuously linked with the Premier League if Marcelo Bielsa’s Elland Road reign comes to an end at the season’s climax, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Whites could be on the lookout for the Argentinian’s successor in the not-too-distant future as Bielsa’s current agreement expires in the summer and he has refused to reveal what his future intentions are.

According to The Telegraph, three candidates are in the running to replace Bielsa if he does opt against extending his stay in Yorkshire.

The report suggests Jesse Marsch, Ernesto Valverde and Carlos Corberan have been ear-marked as potential successors, but sporting director Victor Orta is understood not to have made any advances so far.

However, it appears Marsch, Valverde and Corberan are not the only managers the Leeds hierarchy have got their eye on ahead of a potentially big decision.

Sporting chief Ruben Amorim has impressed the Elland Road decision-makers, while Diego Martinez is also well-liked behind the scenes.

Bielsa has been in charge of Leeds since 2018 and would leave big shoes to fill as he went down in folklore after guiding the club back into the Premier League for the first time in 16 years.

Jones is certain that Leeds’ owners and key decision-makers will think outside the box when it comes to eventually replacing Bielsa.

The transfer insider feels the Whites are likely to be looking overseas ahead of potentially having to make an appointment.

He does not expect a boss who is regularly tipped to be heading to the Premier League to succeed Bielsa at Elland Road.
