Leeds United make managerial decision on Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag's former Ajax assistant

Erik ten Hag's former assistant and Ajax successor Alfred Schreuder has been ruled out of the race to become the new manager at Leeds United, according to reports from PA news agency.

Schreuder, who was present at Elland Road on Sunday afternoon as Manchester United defeated their rivals during the Premier League showdown will not be considered to replace Jesse Marsch after he was sacked by the Whites before their unique doubleheader with United.

Goals from Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho did the damage in that match. A prior meeting between the teams finished 2-2 at Old Trafford on Wednesday night with Rashford also on target in that game.

It looked as though Ten Hag and his players were going to have to settle for a point, once again, but Rashford and substitute Garnacho had other ideas as they struck late in front of the watching Schreuder. However, that scouting mission has proven to be in vain for the 50-year-old Dutchman.

Schreuder spent 14 months under Ten Hag in Amsterdam before pursuing his own managerial ambitions.

Moving on to Hoffenheim and Club Brugge - either side of another assistant spell with Barcelona - Schreuder headed back to Amsterdam last summer when he was tasked with replacing Ten Hag in the Ajax hot seat. But that return did not go according to plan.

Schreuder was sacked by the Eredivisie outfit in January and was tipped to touch down in the Premier League for his next adventure. However, the Yorkshire side are now seemingly poised to look elsewhere.
