Leeds United legend defends Raul Jimenez over controversial sending off for Wolves
Former Leeds United defender turned pundit Tony Dorigo says Wolves striker Raul Jimenez was "unlucky" to receive a second yellow card in the 3-2 defeat against the Whites last week.
The Mexican striker was already on a yellow for a foul on Robin Koch before colliding with goalkeeper Illan Meslier. The dismissal proved a turning point in the second half as Wolves were 2-0 up at the time.
Although the Frenchman beat Jimenez to the ball, he had to be replaced with a hip contusion shortly after. But Dorigo believes Jimenez "didn't mean it" as both were "genuinely going for the ball."
"I actually thought Raul Jimenez was unlucky," Dorigo wrote in the Yorkshire Evening Post. "He’s such a willing runner - if he’s on your team you see him as a player who works incredibly hard for the team.
"His first booking was fair enough and I get that he didn’t get a touch on the ball when he collided with Illan Meslier, but he didn’t mean it. They were both genuinely going for the ball.
"Maybe he could have pulled out but it was still unfortunate for him and for Wolves."
