Leeds United have broken 20-year-old stat that supporters will love

Leeds United have broken a 20-year-old stat that supporters will be thrilled to see. For the first time since 2002, Leeds sit above both Manchester United and Liverpool in the league table.

A tweet from @lufcstats confirmed that this is the first time Leeds have been above the two North West clubs in two decades. The Premier League table is still in it's infancy, with every team having only played one game, but the Whites are seventh in the table after the first round of matches.

The Whites got their season off to a perfect start, coming from behind to defeat Wolves at Elland Road, with a goal from Rodrigo and an own-goal from Rayan Ait-Nouri cancelling out Daniel Podence's early strike.

Champions League finalists Liverpool were held to a 2-2 draw by newly-promoted Fulham at Craven Cottage, while Erik ten Hag lost his first game in charge of Manchester United - with Brighton coming away as 2-1 winners at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Whites were last above both Manchester United and Liverpool on September 14, 2002. Leeds defeated the Red Devils 1-0 at Elland Road that day, with Harry Kewell heading home the winner.

That season, Leeds won four of their opening six Premier League matches, but ended up finishing 15th in the table.
