Leeds United fans will love clip of 19 y/o as club share footage - opinion

Leeds United’s 19-year-old academy prospect Sean McGurk shone in their game on Friday night against Arsenal, scoring a wonderful goal during the game which ended in a 1-1 draw as the points were shared.

The U23s are fighting for Premier League 2 survival as they sit 12th in the table, only two points ahead of Chelsea, who occupy the last relegation spot but have a game in hand over the Whites’ academy side.

Despite the disappointing season for the U23s and the first team with both sides fighting for their league status, Leeds fans can get excited about one of their prospects coming through the ranks in McGurk, who buried home a wonderful goal to secure the point after the Gunners took the lead through Marcelo Flores.

The goal was shared on Twitter by the club’s official account, and it saw McGurk arrive late into the box after a cross was deflected by an Arsenal defender, which allowed the midfielder to slot the ball past the Gunners ‘keeper with a powerful shot down the throat of the goal.

TIF Thoughts on McGurk…

The English winger has played well for the academy side in the Premier League 2 this season, with three goals and one assist in his 18 appearances for a side that have struggled to make their way up the table and secure safety from relegation.

There is still a long way to go for the young man to break into the Leeds first team, with top-quality wingers Jack Harrison, Raphinha and Dan James all in front of him, but if he continues to play at this level and shine amongst the youth team, there is no reason why he couldn’t find himself knocking on the door in a few seasons or at least secure himself a loan deal where he could get some first-team experience.
