Leeds United fans wade in over £60m Aston Villa transfer blow

Leeds United supporters are lauding it over Aston Villa after midfielder Kalvin Phillips has apparently told the club's board he wants to sign a new contract amid interest from the West Midlands.

The England international has been linked with Villa since Leeds returned to the Premier League in 2020. These have only intensified as the Yorkshire side have lingered around the relegation zone in their second season up.

In reporting these claims, The Mirror's northern football writer David Anderson has dubbed it a "big boost", and Leeds fans have shared the same sentiment. Here is a selection of the social media reaction to the Phillips news...

But, but, I thought he was going to AVFC all the fans kept saying, oh well looks like we’re gonna be stuck with him then for the next 10 years then.

This is strange, I’m sure Villa already agreed terms with him?

Made my Wednesday, this has!

Mental when you think Villa and Newcastle had signed him last week.

What about the pull of Steven Gerrard though?

Loves what Jesse Marsch has done so far I've heard.

Shocked! I’d been told he’d signed for Villa already.

Villa sign him every summer, weird that he’s not played a game for them yet.

But but but.....he wants to get to the Champions League with Villa?

£100m. One club man let’s hope. What a player. That’s one thing that Leeds have ahead of all the other teams down there. Two players who all the top clubs would love to have. That’s why I think Leeds will stay in the Premier League.

Anything to avoid moving to the Midlands.

That’s good but what do the board do if they receive an offer for around £80m? Unfortunately, KP doesn’t have a choice. Let’s see how the board react if it does happen.
