Leeds United 3-1 Swansea City: Joel Piroe and Daniel James pile misery on out-of-form Swans

Joel Piroe and Daniel James came back to haunt former employers Swansea City and hand Leeds United a deserved victory at Elland Road.

Jamie Paterson's sublime lob gave the visitors the lead after just two minutes, seconds after James had an effort chalked off for offside. However, fellow Swansea alumnus Piroe did manage to find the net three minutes later, during a breathless opening to a contest that Leeds eventually controlled.

Georginio Rutter put the hosts in front on the stroke of half-time, before James then made sure of the points by finally getting in on the act just after the hour.

Defeat means Swansea have mustered just one win in their last seven Championship outings, a run that leaves them 18th in the table ahead of Saturday's clash with Huddersfield Town.

Swansea boss Michael Duff has already seen his fair share of highs and lows in his first season in Championship management. But he's surely unlikely to have overseen a start quite as dramatic and frantic as the one that unfolded here, with both sides blasting out the blocks during a chaotic opening five minutes.

James thought he'd given the hosts the lead more or less straight from the kick-off after tucking away Rutter's low cross. But the forward, who was facing the Swans for the first time since his departure in 2019, was denied by the offside flag.

Then, incredibly, and just a few seconds later, Swansea were ahead. A long ball from Key bounced off Pascal Struijk's head, dropping kindly for Paterson, who produced a sublime lob to give his side the lead.
