Leeds suffer fresh injury setback as Phil Hay delivers big update on 'very talented' Whites ace

Leeds United midfielder Tyler Roberts is set for an extended spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury, according to journalist Phil Hay.

The Whites were hoping to make a flying start to life under Jesse Marsch on Saturday as they made the trip to Leicester City in the Premier League.

Instead, Leeds were beaten 1-0 at the King Power Stadium, with Harvey Barnes’ goal the difference between the two teams and a relegation battle still on the cards for the Yorkshire club.

The result wasn’t the only negative for Marsch, either, with another injury problem emerging.

According to Hay for The Athletic, Roberts suffered a hamstring problem as soon as he came on against Leicester, ‘reducing him to the movement of a mannequin’ in the process.

It means that the Welshman is likely to be sidelined for a number of weeks, as Leeds’ injury woes this season show few signs of subsiding.

This is just the latest setback in a cruel season for the Whites, whose performances haven’t been good enough at times, but injuries have hurt them badly.

The likes of Liam Cooper, Kalvin Phillips and Patrick Bamford have been the most notable absentees but others have also missed significant periods, with Roberts now joining the queue.

While he isn’t necessarily a huge player for Leeds – starting just seven league games in 2021/22 and a lowly 17th in the squad among WhoScored‘s performance rankings – he is still a valuable figure to have around, having been hailed in the past as ‘very talented’ by his former West Brom boss Tony Pulis.
