Leeds: Marsch to give £26m star 'new lease of life' at Elland Road

Newly-appointed Leeds United head coach Jesse Marsch could be the perfect boss to get the best out of Rodrigo, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Former RB Leipzig chief Marsch was unveiled as Marcelo Bielsa’s successor on Monday as the Whites look to claw their way out of a relegation battle.

Bielsa ended Leeds’ 16-year wait for a return to the Premier League in 2020 and quickly set about adding reinforcements to his squad, with one of those coming in being Rodrigo.

The attacker became the Yorkshire giants’ club-record signing when they forked out £26million to prise him away from La Liga side Valencia.

It was claimed the Brazil-born Spain international could add ‘a completely different dimension’ to Leeds’ play in the final third of the pitch, but he has found life difficult at Elland Road.

Injuries and a lack of form have restricted Rodrigo to just 50 appearances for his current employers, with him only getting on the scoresheet 10 times.

Although he was regularly named in Bielsa’s starting line-up before his sacking at the weekend, Rodrigo has failed to demonstrate prolific form and amassed no more than four goal contributions this season.

Jones believes Marsch may target Rodrigo as an underperforming Leeds star he can help after taking charge.

The transfer insider feels the American could bring the best out of the 30-year-old as he looks to repay the faith shown in him by the Whites after initially disappointing.
