Leeds: Marsch has ‘good chance’ of bringing ‘exciting’ figure to Elland Road

Leeds United have a good chance of bringing in Rene Maric as Jesse Marsch’s assistant manager ahead of the new season, according to Sky Sports reporter Tim Thornton. 

The West Yorkshire giants narrowly avoided relegation last term and are now looking to move onwards and upwards in the Premier League with the appointment of Maric a potentially big step. 

According to The Athletic, Leeds are set to confirm the appointment of Maric as the club’s new assistant manager, replacing Frankie Schemer who took up the role of number two at Elland Road following Marsch’s move. 

Only 29 years old, Maric previously worked as a first-team coach with Borussia Dortmund but left after manager Marco Rose was dismissed at the end of last season. 

Maric has also spent time as an assistant at RB Salzburg, prior to Marsch’s spell with the Austrians, as well as Borussia Monchengladbach. 

The report also states that Leeds had initially targeted Chris Armas to fill the role, the American who joined Ralf Rangnick at Manchester United last season. They were apparently turned down for personal reasons. 

Thornton understands that there is a good chance that Maric will be hired and bedded in before Leeds get their season underway against Wolves on August 6. 

When asked about the potential move, Thornton told GIVEMESPORT: “[It’s] potentially very, very exciting for Leeds. We know that Jesse has been trying to bring somebody in to work alongside him. I think there’s a good chance that he could get done before the start of the season.”

Despite the thrill that a final day survival brings, it is a situation that everyone associated with Leeds will want to avoid this time around.
