Leeds: Key difference between Marsch and Bielsa will impact Elland Road signings

Jesse Marsch’s open-mindedness will help Leeds United bolster their squad this summer, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Marsch’s predecessor at Elland Road, Marcelo Bielsa, was often cautious when looking to bring in new players, but Jones feels the American coach will be different in the market.

Bielsa made three additions to his team last summer, bringing in Daniel James from Manchester United, Junior Firpo from Barcelona, while back-up goalkeeper Kristoffer Klaesson joined from Norwegian side Valerenga.

Leeds also wrapped up the permanent transfer of Jack Harrison after his lengthy loan spell at the club.

However, the Premier League outfit failed to sign anyone at all in January, and this proved costly for Bielsa as his thin squad was badly exposed, leading to him being sacked in late February.

Jones has suggested that Marsch will be open to bringing in a number of players in the off-season to strengthen his ranks, which is a completely different approach to the one taken by Bielsa when he was at the helm.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jones said: “I think he’s more open-minded than Bielsa was, and I think that’s one of the things that will help them in terms of making signings.

“A lot of the time under Bielsa, he was too stubborn about accepting different types of players coming into his environment. And Marsch won’t do that. He’s not that kind of guy.”
