Leeds 'keen to talk' with £45m star this month at Elland Road

Leeds United will want to speak to Kalvin Phillips about a new contract later this month, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Phillips is currently away on international duty, but O’Rourke does not think it will be too long before Leeds sit down with the midfielder to discuss his future.

The 26-year-old has two years remaining on his Elland Road contract, but his future is far from certain at the moment.

Premier League champions Manchester City are believed to be keen on Phillips, and The Sun has reported that they will make an approach for him once he has finished his international commitments.

The report claims that City have sent scouts to watch Phillips play on a number of occasions, and Pep Guardiola is a big fan of the £45m-rated ace.

O’Rourke thinks Leeds will be aware of City’s interest, and has tipped them to act quickly to try to convince Phillips to stay.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I think once the players have their holidays after the international break, and then start reporting back for pre-season later in June, I’m sure Leeds will be keen to talk to Kalvin Phillips and his representatives over a new contract.”

Phillips has also been linked with Manchester United, but The Mirror reported last month that the player has made it clear to those close to him that he will not consider a move to Old Trafford due to the rivalry that exists between the Red Devils and Leeds.

Joining City would be different, though, as there is no such tension between Pep Guardiola’s side and Phillips’ current employers.
