Leeds have "90% chance" of signing "special" £30m star this summer - Transfer insider

Leeds United have a ’90 per cent chance’ of signing Red Bull Salzburg attacking midfielder Brenden Aaronson this summer, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 21-year-old was the subject of multiple bids from the Whites during the January transfer window but ended up remaining with the Austrian champions.

Aaronson, who has been described as “special”, registered seven goals and five assists in 25 appearances under the tutelage of new Leeds manager Jesse Marsch during their short time together at Salzburg.

However, the west Yorkshire outfit were keen to snap up the USA international long before his compatriot succeeded Marcelo Bielsa in the Elland Road hot seat.

According to The Athletic, Leeds had a £15 million bid rejected for Aaronson in the winter as they didn’t want to lose one of their most influential figures before the Champions League knockout stages had begun.

Sky Sports then claimed that the Premier League outfit had an improved offer of £20m turned down as it still fell below Salzburg’s £30m asking price.

Marsch’s arrival at Leeds has only intensified the links between Aaronson and the club, though, and they could revive their interest in the creative talent when the market reopens for business.

Leeds are currently embroiled in a relegation battle, and who they can sign ahead of next season will largely depend on what division they are playing in.
